Railway Network Wireless Connectivity Solutions

Share

Cambium Networks provides end-to-end Cloud-based solutions for reliable, scalable and secure connectivity within the railway industry.

Solutions are designed to allow service providers, industrial and government rail network operators to streamline operations.

Cambium Networks is dedicated to continuously innovating wireless access, which is proven by the company’s millions of radios that have benefitted transport networks worldwide.

End-to-end coverage to manage any railway application, data load or environment

Cambium Networks offers a range of fixed wireless broadband point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP) solutions.

Cambium Networks provides Cloud-based platforms to enhance connectivity for railways.
PTP and PMP wireless broadband solutions are available for indoor or outdoor railway applications.
Solutions can provide connectivity for railway networks up to 200km away.

Platforms are managed by Cloud-based software and provide rail transportation with powerful communications networks, reaching users as far away as 200km in all environments.

PTP and PMP platforms also allow clients to manage network Wi-Fi infrastructure through end-to-end visibility and actionable analytics.

Connectivity solutions for freight and rail transportation

Freight rail operators are connecting more remote sensors and cameras with their private wireless communications to improve performance and increase safety. These networks provide consistent and reliable connectivity as a cost-effective alternative to leased lines.

Wireless technology is available to provide connectivity for video, voice, email and data traffic, as well as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) from sensors and control points through a single all-IP network with complete centralised administration.

Cambium Networks wireless platforms have been successfully used across positive train control (PTC), centralised control, and advanced autonomous applications.

Platforms have been tested across transport for SCADA and process control data, successful remote management, video surveillance and voice services. Temporary communications, right of way monitoring and connectivity are also supported.

Solutions are suitable for use with indoor and outdoor 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi at offices and field locations.

Solutions for wireless connectivity and distribution automation for railways

Cambium Networks provides the cnReach™ solution to deliver cost-effective narrowband wireless connectivity and maintain distribution automation, switch and circuit control at substations, as well as SCADA telemetry.

cnReach allows operators to make use of machine-to-machine (M2M) technology, SCADA communication and a range of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications to enhance connectivity.

The platform helps operators perform phased migration to the secure, efficient and scalable all-IP network with the ability to support a number of serial or IP communications.

Enterprises can monitor the performance of their network, respond to alarms and perform configuration changes using the centralised cnMaestro network management interface, which works in collaboration with Cambium Networks products.

The cnReach platform is available in 220MHz, 450MHz, 700MHz, and 900MHz licensed and unlicensed frequency bands. The same module is suitable for use in PTP, PMP and relay configurations. A dual-radio option is available as an innovative back-to-back repeater.

An extensive I/O features two ethernet and serial ports with incorporated general purpose analogue / digital interfaces. It has access point synchronisation, as well as adaptive modulation.

Long-range high-capacity point-to-point backhaul for railway networks

Cambium Networks’ PTP 670 makes use of advanced spectral efficiency and reliability, as well as high-capacity multipoint distribution. The systems allow operators to handle railway connectivity needs with security and reliability at up to 450Mbps system throughput.

PTP 670 enables multiple nodes in rail maps to be connected with one main radio, creating new models that can deliver quick deployment, simple planning and a rapid return on investment.

Systems are designed for a variety of railway applications, including video surveillance backhaul, last-mile access and network redundancy. The solution is also ideal for long-term evolution (LTE), macro-cell, and small-cell backhaul.

Wireless backhaul technology used on the platform offers optimum PTP and high-capacity multipoint connectivity. It features 4.9GHz to 6.05GHz frequencies, with a range of channels, including 5MHz, 10MHz, 15MHz, 20MHz, 30MHz, 40MHz, and 45MHz. The PTP 670 complies with FIPS 197, 1588v2, IPv6 and IP66/67 industry standards.

Solutions for simplified data transfer for rail networks and operators

Wireless technology can be deployed in freight yards, along the right of way, and at strategic points along railways without interrupting day-to-day schedules and operations across the network. This helps minimise the impact on business caused by the cost of delays and cancellations.

It is non-disruptive to existing operations, allowing freight trains to keep moving. The communications network can be tested and cut over to a wireless IP infrastructure according to the individual operation.

About Cambium Networks

Cambium Networks solutions increase visibility for network and intelligent traffic control, which delivers first-rate end-to-end coverage for enhanced management of applications, data loads, and environments even in the most inaccessible locations.

The company connects the railway industry with opportunities created by the Internet of Things, including growing bandwidth consumption, video streaming and new data. Solutions are designed to develop along with evolving technologies and ensure that everything is within reach.

Projects

  • Velaro Novo High-Speed Train

The Velaro Novo high-speed train being developed by Siemens is expected to set new standards for efficiency and sustainability, as well as passenger comfort and convenience.

  • Mashhad Metro

Mashhad Metro is a light rail system operating in the holy city of Mashhad, in the Razavi Khorasan province of Iran. Operated by Mashhad Urban Railway, the project is also referred to as Mashhad Light Rail and Mashhad Urban Rail.

  • New York City Subway

New York City in the US led the way with mass transit systems and started operating its first metro line as long ago as 1904. In 1953, control of the system was assumed by the New York City Transit Authority, which also took over the management of all metropolitan bus services.

  • Great North Rail Project

Great North Rail Project (GNRP) involves a series of upgrades to the railway network across the north of England.

  • Athens Metro

The Athens Metro in Greece is formed of an enlarged and upgraded suburban rail route, as well as two newer lines.

Products & services
