Absopulse Electronics RWY 280H Series is a rugged, railway quality DC / DC converter that utilises high-efficiency push-pull power conversion topology. This 280W converter has significantly larger design headroom than the earlier field-proven RWY 280 design, and can therefore comfortably deliver up to 300W output power.

The RWY 280H complies with all relevant railway standards including EN 50155, EN50121-3-2 conducted and radiated EMI, EN 55022 Class B, and EN 61000 immunity, and it is suitable for a wide range of on-board and trackside railway applications.

The unit accepts supply voltages of 24Vdc (14.4-34V range), 36Vdc (22-51V range), 48Vdc (29-67V range), 72Vdc (43-101V range), 96Vdc (58-135V range) or 110Vdc (66-154V range). It delivers any single output voltage from 12V to 110Vdc and the output is floating and either terminal can be grounded. An optional built-in redundancy diode for parallel connection to achieve higher output power or N+1 redundant operation is available. Other input and output voltages, as well as an ‘ON’ LED are also available on request.

The RWY 280H operates within a -40°C to +70°C cold plate temperature range for full specification. Cooling is by conduction via a base plate to a heat-sinking surface. Encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound ensures immunity to shock and vibration (EN61373/IEC61373), moisture and airborne contaminants. It measures 113mm x 60mm x 200mm, (it is 0.125in higher than the RWY 280) and it weighs approximately 1.8kg.

Low component count, large design headroom, and the use of components with established reliability result in a high MTBF. The unit has 3kVdc input to output isolation, inrush current limiting and reverse polarity protection at the input. Over-voltage, rectangular current limiting with non-hiccup type short circuit protection and thermal protection are standard.
