By 2024, the Sydney Metro line will include 31 stations and 66km of standalone metro railway.

The New South Wales (NSW) Government has approved the pre-agreed extension of the Northwest Rapid Transit Public-Private Partnership contract to operate the line beyond Chatswood to Bankstown.

In 2014, the NSW Government selected the NRT consortium to deliver the operations, trains and systems (OTS) contract for the North West Metro Line from Rouse Hill to Chatswood for 15 years.

The NRT had selected Metro Trains Sydney to operate the metro railway. The metro rail infrastructure such as stations, tracks and trains will be owned by the government.

In June, the Government of NSW confirmed A$6.4bn ($4.4bn) of funding for the Sydney Metro West project as part of its 2019 to 2020 state budget.

The total funding will be made available in four years, with an aim to accelerate the construction of the project.
