San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) in the US has allocated $2.5m for the construction of Pittsburg Centre Station at the intersection of Highway 4 and Railroad Avenue.
The approval follows the revision to BART’s 2014 budget and it is subjected to a funding agreement with other area transit agencies and the city of Pittsburg.

The other partners involved in the eBART extension, such as Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Contra Costa Transit Authority, are expected to raise the remainder for the $11.9m project.
Pittsburg vice-mayor Pete Longmire said: "Our vision for the Pittsburg Centre Station is to create a vibrant, walkable transit-oriented area at the crossroads of our community.
"We want to promote development that is environmentally sound and makes sense economically."
The investment of BART will stay in its operating reserves, in case the funding agreement does not succeed.

By GlobalDataThe eBART project is a ten-mile extension of quality service from the existing Pittsburg/Bay Point Station to Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch and it is expected to be completed in 2018.
After the completion of $525m eBART project, which also includes the construction of two stations, the diesel multiple-unit trains will be used on the line.
In another development, BART has selected a Parsons/Acumen joint venture (APJV) for a five-year contract to deliver general engineering services.
Consisting of 11 sub-consultants, APJV will provide top-flight services such as architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and systems project work.
