Hong Kong’s Transport and Housing Secretary has also announced the trial as ‘safe and sound’, thereby allowing MTR to enter the final stage of preparation before launching the line for passenger services.

More than 700 personnel are currently working on the final preparations for the HSR.

“We will continue to work hand in hand with the operational team to ensure a smooth opening in late September 2018.”

During the trial, which was conducted between Hong Kong and China, a number of tests were carried out to validate the hardware and software of the HRS.

MTR XRL general manager Simon Tang said: “Safety and quality have been our top priorities during the design and construction of this railway project and we overcame many challenges to bring the new rail link to fruition.

“For the final weeks leading up to the service commencement of the HSR, we will continue to work hand in hand with the operational team to ensure a smooth opening in late September 2018.”

MTR has also provided the approved design drawings, testing results and quality control records to relevant government departments for assessment to help their inspection of the HSR such as signalling and communication systems, trackwork and overhead line systems, and rolling stock.

The evaluation will also include the structural safety of the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.

In Hong Kong, MTR operates ten commuter railway lines, a Light Rail network and a high-speed Airport Express link, on which 5.8 million passenger trips are made on a normal weekday.
