Hong Kong-based railway operator MTR has successfully completed the trial run of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail’s (HSR) Hong Kong section.
The trial has confirmed the safety and other operating conditions of the HSR for passenger services.
Hong Kong’s Transport and Housing Secretary has also announced the trial as ‘safe and sound’, thereby allowing MTR to enter the final stage of preparation before launching the line for passenger services.
More than 700 personnel are currently working on the final preparations for the HSR.
During the trial, which was conducted between Hong Kong and China, a number of tests were carried out to validate the hardware and software of the HRS.
MTR XRL general manager Simon Tang said: “Safety and quality have been our top priorities during the design and construction of this railway project and we overcame many challenges to bring the new rail link to fruition.
