"The contract was awarded by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and covers the construction of the new 3.2km-long Korsvägen phase of the West Link tunnel project."

Trafikverket West Link project manager Bo Larsson said: “During the tender process, we placed great emphasis on the contractor’s plans for carrying out the work, and the proposals have been assessed by a panel.

“The bids have been evaluated on the basis of both price and proposals for implementation.”

The 8km-long West Link (Västlänken) is a double-track railway section that includes a 6km railway tunnel underneath the city of Gothenburg.

The Korsvägen section forms the part of the West Link that runs from Landala through Korsvägen and Örgryte / Jakobsdal to Almedal to connect to the existing network.

Three of the planned sections will require concrete tunnels in clay and the digging of shafts.

The Korsvägen station will also be built underground and feature three entrances at the interchange.

The station will initially feature one platform and two tracks, while preparatory work has also been undertaken to add another platform and two tracks to the site.

Construction work is expected to commence early next year and is anticipated to continue through to 2026.

The West Link is intended to enable the operator to increase the frequency of train services and reduce travel times along the route.
