All of 22 metro trains delivered by a consortium of Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya have started service on the BTS Green Line, also known as BTS Skytrain.

In May 2016, Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company (BTSC) placed an order for the 22 four-car metro trains to the consortium. The first of the 22 vehicles was manufactured in June last year.

In October, the last train of the batch began service on the BTS Green Line extensions.

BTSC has commenced passenger services on the new section of the BTS Green Line, which runs between Kheha Station and Kasetsart University Station.

Siemens Mobility provided the bogies, traction and braking systems and auxiliary systems. It was also responsible for project management, design / engineering and train commissioning.

Bozankaya produced the trains at its factory in Ankara and Siemens Mobility will maintain the fleet for 16 years.

Siemens Mobility CEO Sabrina Soussan said: “The BTS Skytrain System is a very special success story for us. It’s the first public rail transport system to be completed in the Thai capital and Siemens Mobility has delivered the elevated system as a turnkey project.

“We’ve provided full service for the system since its commissioning nearly 20 years ago and will continue to do so until 2029, ensuring that over 99% of the existing trains are available for service every day. With the addition of our new trains, capacity on the Green Lines will increase to over one million passengers a day while at the same time, offering users optimal passenger experience.”

Last month, Siemens Mobility received a contract for the delivery of signalling and communications systems to Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan.
