In recent years, MTM Power has developed into one of the largest power supply manufacturers for railway applications in Europe. The decisive factor is the quality of innovative products, and the flexibility and reliability of the base business.

MTM Power offers a wide range of EN 50 155 compliant DC/DC converters, with 14W – 600W, which are especially designed for vehicle and railway applications. These devices supply the electric and electronic systems on-board and track-side.

In addition to rail converters, the product range includes DC/AC inverters, filters and multi-power supply systems. MTM Power also provides an extensive range of AC/DC modules for various applications.

MTM Power products meet all relevant standards, as well as EN/UL regulations if applicable. Large-scale testing and examination ensures high quality and reliability for the worldwide, unique thermo-selective vacuum encapsulation (U.S. Patent No. 8,821,778 B2).

DC/DC converters for railways

Resistant to mechanical stress, shock and vibration, as well as environmental influences such as condensation, humidity and conductive dusts, the MTM Power DC/DC converters series PCMDS has been designed in accordance with EN 50 155, EN 45 545-2. The converters are suitable for advanced use in trains, for mounting in containers in the roof or underneath the floor, as well as in driver’s cabs, engine compartments and in the wagon.

The converters are available with three wide input ranges thus covering the battery voltages of 24V, 36V, 48V, 60V, 72V, 80V, 96V and 110V according to EN 50 155. They are available with 30W, 60W, 80W, 150W, 200W and 400W output power and galvanically isolated output voltages of 5V to 48V.

They are connected via spring clamps, which meet special requirements in railway applications regarding vibration resistance and maintenance-free operation.

The combination of these clamps with connectors reduces the time for wiring and allows an easier replacement. The converters with 30W and 150W are also available as a 19in plug-in unit.

All devices are certified and comply to the required railway standard according to EN 50 155, EN 50 121-3-2, EN 61 373 Cat 1, Class B, as well as EN 61 010-1, EN 61 000-6-4, EN 61 000-6-2 and fulfil the fire protection regulations according EN 45 545-2.

These converters operate according to the current source push-pull principle. Advantages of this switching topology include the wide input voltages with constant efficiency.

With the help of a transformer and a secondary linear choke, a galvanically isolated output voltage is produced, which is adjusted by pulse-width modulation according to the current mode principle.

The IU characteristic of the output voltage curve enables the supply of critical loads such as motors or halogen lamps. Further features of this switching topology inlcude a transformer with good coupling and low leakage inductance, which is usable for direct control of secondary synchronously detection.

Regular heat dissipation and resistance to shock, vibration, and humidity is guaranteed from the thermoselective vacuum encapsulation (US Patent Number 8,821,778 B2).

Further features include reverse polarity protection in connection with an active input current limiting. The integrated heat sink range is cooled by free convection. To ensure smooth operation, it is necessary to mount the converters without a heatsink on a heat-dissipating surface.

AC/DC power supplies for IP67 application

The most remarkable feature of the primary switched modules PM-IP67A200 is the design, suitable for applications with protection degree IP67. Furthermore, they are especially designed for the electric supply of control, sensor and actuating systems.
In order to achieve protection degree IP67 for conventional power supplies, it has been necessary to install them into switching cabinets or corresponding enclosures.

The power supplies of the series PM-IP67A of MTM Power allow the use as a plug and play solution directly on-the-site. This is only possible due to the connection via special 7in / 8in connectors and the worldwide unique thermo-selective vacuum encapsulation developed by MTM Power.

The series PM-IP67A200 is available with 24V single and dual output voltages and is certified according to the standards UL 60 950-1 and UL 508. The compact supplies with AC (90VAC to 264VAC) and DC (100VDC to 300VDC) wide input range are designed for worldwide use under extreme, environmental conditions and allow an efficient, cost-saving solution for different tasks in all on-machine applications.

As an option, units with 24Vout are also available, with variable current limiting designs to allow a short-time 50% increase of output power. This function, known as power boost, allows application on motors, capacitive loads, etc.

The outputs of the dual output version are galvanically separated with a 3.3kVAC isolation voltage and are independently regulated. Both output voltages offer a limited power source accordant to UL 60 950-1 and UL 1310, NEC class 2. The devices are according to protection degree 1, and comply with the Low Voltage Directive, as well as with the up-to-date EMC standards as regards CE conformity.

Further features are rugged design, SMD-technology, automatic 100% final test and 100%-burn-in-test. The series PM-IP67A200 is constantly short circuit protected, needing no ground load, and operates within a temperature range of -25°C to 75°C.
