Passenger Information Displays for Dundee Station
A renewal project for the replacement of 18 life-expired CRT displays on the concourse, platforms and waiting areas of Dundee Station has been completed with the help of Ashby-based display technology and communication company Infotec.
The £53,000 contract was awarded by Babcock Rail and has proved a huge success to both their client Network Rail and to the end user ScotRail. The Project team has received a glowing report from Network Rail, not only for the high-quality installation but for the manner in which they carried out the management and engineering of the project.
The work, which was one of the last of the previous Telecomms framework contracts, was delivered on time and within budget.
The new CIS design augmented the use of Infotec’s LED and high definition TFT display technologies. A new Infotec mainboard was installed within the station concourse and has been strategically located to maintain safe viewing and optimum passenger flow. Atos Origin control equipment provides the necessary live train services information.
The Dundee CIS project followed on the back of the previously successful Stirling CIS and Ayrshire CIS renewal where six of the main stations from Paisley Gilmour St to Ayr Station were given complete new CIS displays.
Network Rail and ScotRail management have complimented the high standard of installation and the huge benefits that are being passed to their customers. Following completion at Dundee, Network Rail Scheme project manager, Alan Simpson, commented: “Another excellent job from Babcock Rail.”
Babcock Rail project manager, John Forrest, says: “I can only thank the huge commitment and hard work of the project team for the excellence provided in CIS delivery over the past three years.”
“The success of the Dundee CIS Project once again reaffirmed the value of committed teamwork between engineering disciplines and multiple contractors. Infotec and Atos Origin have not only delivered in terms of product excellence but also in technical support and commissioning back up. Babcock Rail Civil and Electrical Consultancy Divisions have provided the necessary design support to the project which has been well received by Network Rail.”
