New Yagi Antenna for the Railway Sector

Effective immediately, the SENCITY SPOT-M Yagi antenna is expanding the CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) product portfolio from HUBER+SUHNER. This WiFi antenna was specially developed for the market and application-specific requirements of CBTC systems.

With the SENCITY SPOT-M Yagi antenna, HUBER+SUHNER launches an antenna for installation in tunnels and along tracks that meets the fire safety requirements of prEN 45545-2. The linear-polarised, directional antenna works in the 2.4 GHz band (IEEE 802.11 b/g) and fulfils railway-specific environmental requirements as per EN50125-3.

Design and installation
The new SENCITY SPOT-M impresses thanks to its robust and compact design. Its slender design makes the antenna well-suited for use in tunnels, where particularly tight loading gauges significantly restrict the available space and therefore also the maximum permissible size of the antenna. Furthermore, a two-chamber principle reduces the air volume in the critical portion of the housing, thereby reducing the amount the antenna breathes in changing temperatures.

The enclosed, three-way adjustable antenna bracket allows for a variety of installation possibilities on masts, (curved) walls and ceilings. A special coating on the bracket and the choice of materials for the antenna components ensure a high level of corrosion resistance.

Application: communication-based train control
Thanks to increasing demands for safe and efficient rail travel, CBTC systems are also gaining importance in the railway sector: headways are reduced and as a result line capacity is improved due to electronic data communication between the train and trackside equipment.

Furthermore CBTC ensures a higher level of safety. HUBER+SUHNER offers a wide product portfolio for the fast-growing market of CBTC applications, which includes roof-top antennas with accompanying radio-frequency components and fiber optic cables in addition to trackside antennas.
