infoteam Software AG and MEN have teamed-up closely to implement an evaluation version of FlexiSafe for the menTCS safe train control system. The evaluation software allows fast and uncomplicated testing of different use cases.

Evaluation Version of FlexiSafe available for menTCS

The freely configurable and modular MEN Train Control System menTCS can be used for all kinds of critical rolling-stock control functions such as Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP), which have to meet requirements up to safety level SIL 4.

For fast and uncomplicated testing of menTCS for its suitability for various functions in a train, infoteam Software AG has now implemented an evaluation version of FlexiSafe on the menTCS controller.

The IEC 61131 engineering system based on ISaGRAF technology and the associated firmware for embedded controllers is especially tailored for the requirements relating to functional safety. Hence it is certified according to IEC 61508:SIL 3, DIN EN ISO 13849:PLe as well as to DIN EN ISO 50128:SIL 4 for railways. In addition to that, also non-safety applications can be realised with FlexiSafe, allowing both safety- and non-safety parts to be implemented in one project.

“The introduced evaluation version proves the good interplay of FlexiSafe with menTCS, offering users the possibility to precisely evaluate their particular requirements,” said Gregor Schmitt, Business Segment Manager Transportation & Energy at infoteam.

As the F75P menTCS CPU card, the corresponding F75P QNX BSP, as well as FlexiSafe are all pre-certified, the time-to-market for tailored applications can be shortened dramatically with menTCS in comparison to new developments.

menTCS, the modular Train Control System from MEN, builds on standardised electronics and a standardised interface to the software application, and is therefore the very first open computer platform for automatic train operation and protection. Both operators and supplier benefit from noticeably lower system costs, not only for certification but also due to independence of suppliers regarding maintenance and lifecycle management.
