The development of railway stations as appealing places in which to shop, eat and drink, as well as to catch trains is leading to wider use of passenger information displays designed and manufactured by Infotec.

Infotec’s ability to provide real-time information about train services away from the platforms means that those catching or meeting trains can relax in the retail and leisure outlets. There is no need to dash out ‘in plenty of time’ or to keep going back and forth to information boards.

Customers can stay where they are and stay informed at the same time.

A number of recently completed contracts have included displays for settings other than the main concourse or station platforms.

At Manchester Piccadilly, displays have been installed in Hourglass, Carluccio’s, Costa Coffee, Café Ritazza, Pret a Manger and Starbucks, with an additional two to be installed in American themed bar TGI Friday’s. The displays used are radio-enabled wireless units, which reduce the disruption that can be an issue with cabling in retail units.

Displays have also been provided in Costa Coffee at Newcastle Central Station while in Liverpool several of Merseyrail’s Mtogo convenience stores have behind-counter and shopping area displays.

Infotec’s latest TFT range of full HD displays features the in-house designed Tetrus control engine. Tetrus is a state-of-the-art controller based on the famous ARM processor.

Running a Linux or Android operating system, the displays are available in a range of sizes in both fully ruggedized (TR) and semi-ruggedized (TS) enclosures. These Tetrus displays are the culmination of years of development, offering a full visual and audio platform for a 21st century audience. Infotec has the solution for passenger information whatever the location.
