Deals and M&As this week: DB cargo, Stadler, Bombardier Transportation

DB Cargo and Siemens Mobility have signed a framework agreement for the supply of 100 multi-system locomotives.

The agreement follows an initial order for 40 Vectron multi-system (Vectron MS) locomotives by DB Cargo’s freight division.

The locomotives supplied by Siemens Mobility will run at a top speed of 160km/h with a maximum output of 6.4MW and will be equipped with national train control systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS).

The locomotives will be used for cross-border operations in Europe. Deliveries will be made from February 2019 to June 2020.

Stadler has won a contract for delivering ten five-car FLIRT trains to Belarusian Railway.

The electric-powered trains will run at a maximum speed of 160km/h and will be deployed on inter-regional business-class lines.

The trains will have a height of 92.96m, a width of 3.48m and 260 seats.

Operational data from the trains will be transmitted to the Belarusian Railway server to enhance the efficiency of rolling stock.

The trains will be made to adhere to the technical regulations of the Customs Union (TR CU 001/2011) for integration into Belarusian Railway’s existing FLIRT fleet.

Deliveries will begin by the end of 2020.

Bombardier Transportation has received a contract from Porterbrook for installing digital signalling systems on 12 Class 387 Electrostar trains.

“The project is being developed with an investment of £11m ($12.5m) and is expected to be completed by December.”

The contractor is responsible for the installation of in-cab European train control system (ETCS) signalling on the trains, as well as performing specific on-board conversions.

The trains will feature fast Wi-Fi, televisions, charging options at seats and better seating configuration with additional luggage space.

Engineering and design will be carried out by Bombardier at Derby Litchurch Lane Works.

The project is being developed with an investment of £11m ($12.5m) and is expected to be completed by December.

The trains will serve the Heathrow Express rail link in the UK and will form the fleet to function between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport.

Japan International Cooperation Agency has signed an agreement with the Government of the Philippines for an official development assistance (ODA) loan of ¥167.19bn ($1.53bn) to support a rail project in Metropolitan Manila, Philippines.

JICA will provide the loan to fund the North-South Commuter Railway Extension Project, under the agreement.

The loan will support the procurement of rolling stock, a railway system and consulting services.

The Japanese ODA loan for the project will follow the regulations of Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP). It includes a series of requirements related to the transfer of Japanese technology and associated expertise.

The North-South Commuter Railway Extension Project is expected to be completed in September 2025.

Strukton Rail has completed the acquisition of the remaining 40% stake in Costruzioni Linee Ferroviarie (CLF) Group from Unieco.

The group is led by CLF and includes subsidiary and affiliated companies UNIFERR, SIFEL and engineering firm TES.

The financing for the deal was arranged by Banco BPM.
