The Government of Victoria in Australia has announced plans to start major maintenance and overhauling works on the Seymour and Shepparton lines next month.

The A$10m ($7.43m) upgrading programme, which includes works to modernise tracks, signalling and all associated structures, is expected to improve operational reliability along the two lines.

During the period of works, coaches will substitute all Seymour and Shepparton trains operating to and from Southern Cross Station, while a temporary bus service will be provided to minimise disruptions.

“We need to do more to improve the reliability and comfort along the Seymour line – and these works are an important step to achieving a better service.”

The upgrade works will be carried out concurrently with the Buckley Street level crossing works.

Victoria Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said: “We’re getting on with vital upgrades to track, signalling and stations along the Seymour and Shepparton lines to provide a more safe and reliable service for passengers.

“We’ve scheduled this work to reduce disruption and we thank passengers in advance for their patience – but it needs to be done to get locals where they need to go sooner.”
