Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said: “It’s frustrating to turn up at a station car park in the morning and find it already full – that’s why we’re building thousands of new car spaces to make it easier for people to get where they need to go.

“We’re making sure more people can get a park at their local train station and that stations are safe and easy to access.”

“We’re building thousands of new car spaces to make it easier for people to get where they need to go.”

Stations at Belgrave, Sandown Park, Epping and Craigieburn will be upgraded as part of the programme. At Belgrave, a multi-story car park will be built in the station precinct that will provide 470 new parking spaces for commuters, a significant increase over the 160 spaces currently available.

The station precinct will also be equipped with new lighting, CCTV and better parking, as well as drop off points for coaches and clearer signage.

Deputy Premier and Member for Monbulk James Merlino said: “Locals have been calling for more car parking at Belgrave Station and that is why we undertook a feasibility study in 2017.

“These 470 extra spaces means fewer cars clogging up neighbouring streets and more car spaces free for people to shop in town.”

In the last three years, the government has already built and upgraded nearly 3,000 parking spaces to ensure that rail commuters have access to a parking space at the station.
