Transport for Wales (TfW) has allocated £280,000 for refurbishing 13 stations between Wrexham and Upton on the Borderlands line as a part of its Station Improvement Vision.

The work at Neston station will commence by the end of this year, after which the other 12 stations will be revamped.

Work will include deep cleaning, rebranding of shelters, cutting back overgrown vegetation, station rebranding in the new TfW colours, new signage and relining of car parks.

In the long term, TfW also plans to carry out other improvements at these stations such as deployment of new CCTV cameras, improved customer information screens, additional platform seating and refurbished waiting rooms.

Wales Minister for Economy and Transport Ken Skates said: “These are significant improvements in the short-term and the long-term, complementing the plans for better transport and business links around the station as part of the Wrexham Gateway Project.

“It is a clear example of the difference Transport for Wales are making and form part of the exciting and ambitious plans for rail travel in this region. We’ve been clear on the need for infrastructure improvements in North Wales and this investment along the Borderlands line will deliver significant benefits for passengers.”

Last month, TfW revealed the £194m ($241m) Station Improvement Vision programme to upgrade 247 railway stations.

The investment will bring in new retail facilities, as well as develop community spaces at stations and businesses opportunities for local firms.

Upgrades will also include the Secure Station Accreditation programme expansion in association with the British Transport Police. This will help offer safer stations for customers.
