Systra noted that this was the same line on which it had worked more than ten years ago and from 2015 to 2017.

According to the contract, the parties will be responsible for the design documentation, including the programme and spatial concept, construction design with the essential administrative provisions and conclusions, and tender materials.

Systra stated that the modernisation project is expected to be completed in mid-2023.

In addition, Poland’s Gliwice Łabędy station will also be improved.

Systra Poland project manager Aleksandra Chachulska-Krysmann said: “We are delighted to have been awarded another challenging assignment on the country’s railway network and to be working with our long-standing local partner BPK Mosty.”

Due to this project, Systra will become part of an investment programme, which is the Railway Component of the Central Communication Port and will again work to develop railways in the Opole and Lower Silesia regions.

The company stated that the improvement project will benefit both travellers and visitors.

In addition, this initiative will also offer ecological benefits due to a modal shift from road to rail that is yet to be executed.

Poland is currently upgrading and enhancing its transport access to neighbouring nations to create a positive impact on the economy.

Last month, Systra secured a design and build (D&B) contract for a major high-speed line in Italy.

The contract was for a portion of the high-speed railway track between Naples and Bari. It is situated on one of the corridors of the trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
