This is the same track on which Systra had worked earlier, after winning a D&B contract for the Naples-Cancello section of the line in 2018.

In a design joint venture (JV) with the engineering firm SWS, Systra-Sotecni will work on the detailed design to double-up the Frasso Telesino-Vitulano section, lots Telese-San Lorenzo and San Lorenzo-Vitulano, of the HS/HC Railway line Napoli-Bari.

Systra has a stake of 58% in the joint venture while SWS owns 42%.

The construction JV led by Ghella, including Itinera, Salcef and Coget, selected the design JV before the tender phase.

Work will be carried out in two phases.

In phase one, the detailed design will be approved in six months before the beginning of the works.

In phase two, the detailed design of all the project phases during the implementation of the works will be finished within three years.

Systra and Systra-Sotecni will carry out work on the alignment, bridges and viaducts, stops, MEP (excluding tunnels), track, catenary, electrical substations, signalling, TLC systems and low voltage.

On the other hand, SWS will work on tunnels, geology, geotechnics, environmental studies, hydrology and hydraulics.

Systra-Sotecni managing director Amedeo Aita Mari said: “Being awarded another contract to work on this major railway line demonstrates the confidence our client has in the abilities of our expert teams.

“Our proposal for technical improvements was a major factor in being chosen for this assignment, followed by the organisation of the design and construction activities and the schedule. We are well on the way to consolidating our position in the railway D&B sector in Italy.”

In a recent development, Systra secured two major work packages on the UK’s Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRUe).
