The Government of New South Wales has announced that the Sydney light rail service L2 will begin service on 14 December.
The service will operate between Circular Quay and Randwick from 11am to 1am at launch. Customers will be able to ride for free during the open weekend.

The light rail will operate between 5.00am and 1.00am every day.
Trains will depart along the Circular Quay to Central route every 4 to 8 minutes and the Central to Randwick route every 8 to 12 minutes during peak times.
The L2 Randwick Line features 14 stops and operates between Circular Quay and Randwick.
Stops will include CBD, Central, Surry Hills, Moore Park and UNSW. Trains will also stop near the Randwick Hospitals Campus on High Street.

By GlobalDataMinister for Transport Andrew Constance emphasised the need for the customers to adhere to the safety messages around trams.
Constance added: “We have launched multiple safety campaigns telling people to stay safe around light rail. We need pedestrians to keep their heads up and drivers to stay out of the tram corridor and not queue across intersections.”
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said: “The new network will move up to 13,500 commuters an hour during peak time in both directions, replacing the conga line of buses which used to sit in traffic on George Street. A coupled tram holds up to 450 customers, the equivalent of up to nine standard buses.”
The L3 Kingsford Line, from Circular Quay to Juniors Kingsford, is expected to open in March 2020. This will add five extra stops between Moore Park and Kingsford.
The new lines span 24.7km and expand on the L1 Dulwich Hill line. The L1 runs from Dulwich Hill to Central.
