Construction firm Strukton has received a contract to design and construct a rail depot and associated infrastructure in the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Last month, locomotive leasing company Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) and Siemens agreed to form an equally owned joint venture that will carry out locomotive servicing and maintenance in this city.

The workshop, to be named the Locomotive Workshop Rotterdam (LWR), is expected to begin operations in 2019.
LWR is expected to maintain Siemens’ new Vectron locomotives, as part of the MRCE fleet. It will also offer maintenance services and ensure maximum availability of third-party fleets.
Additionally, the workshop will manage inspections and provide preventive and corrective maintenance works for locomotives.
The workshop is expected to become an important service hub for European rail operators in Rotterdam, one of the key locations along the main corridors of the RailNetEurope Network, the association which facilitates rail traffic in Europe.
