Rolling stock manufacturer Stadler has secured a contract to deliver ten five-car FLIRT trains to Belarusian Railway.

Deliveries of the electric-powered trains will begin from the end of next year and be used for inter-regional business class lines.

Belarusian Railway deputy head Vladimir Balakhonov said: “Today’s event continues the development of a new format of passenger transportation, which the Belarusian Railway began to realise in 2010 in order to create an integrated transportation system in Belarus.

“It is aimed at effective satisfaction of the population’s needs in transport services.”

The trains will be based on the seven-car FLIRT intercity vehicles already operating on the Belarusian railway network.

“Today’s event continues the development of a new format of passenger transportation, which the Belarusian Railway began to realise in 2010.”

Capable of running at a top speed of 160km/h, each train will be 92.96m-long and 3.48m-wide.

The first class passenger compartment will have call buttons to enable passengers to connect directly with the train conductor.

Second class passenger compartments will feature seats with armrests in accordance with the three-plus-two-scheme.

The trains will also be equipped with a Wi-Fi-system, adjustable sun-protective roller blinds on every window and three toilets, including one for passengers with reduced mobility.

One of the FLIRT train compartments will feature a dedicated space to store large luggage, bicycles and prams.
