Stadler began building in October 2017 and completed it in around 18 months. The company is said to have invested around $50m for the construction of the facility.

Located near the airport, the Salt Lake site is situated on a 62-acre area in the North West quadrant and spans 230,000ft².

It comprises multiple halls with an area of 45,000ft² each.

The company celebrated the opening by re-enacting the historic meeting of the trains at Promontory point with its own electric and diesel trains for CalTrain and TEXRail.

Stadler has transferred all operations from the leased Warm Springs site to the new facility last month.

Governor Herbert said: “It seems fitting that as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad that we also celebrate the grand opening of Stadler Rail’s new US headquarters and manufacturing facility in Utah.”

Last month, Stadler received a $600m contract from the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to deliver 127 trains for Atlanta Metro in the US.
