Locomotive leasing company Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) has ordered an additional 25 Vectron locomotives to be delivered by Siemens.

Ten of these units, which will be multisystem (MS) Vectron locomotives, will operate across Europe from the Netherlands to southeast Europe. They are planned to be delivered at the end of this year.

Another ten Vectron MS locomotives set to be delivered in the second half of next year are equipped with European Train Control System (ETCS) and will operate on the Rhine-Alps Corridor.

“This extended market coverage is allowing us to provide the best and most flexible services to our customers.”

MRCE will equip the remaining five units as direct-current locomotives (Vectron DC). They will operate exclusively in Italy and their delivery is planned for the beginning of March next year. Each Vectron DC has an output of 5,200kW.

In September last year, MRCE ordered 30 Vectron locomotives from Siemens, which were delivered in January this year.

Siemens Mobility Division CEO Sabrina Soussan said: “With this new order, the MRCE Vectron fleet will grow to a total of 136 locomotives.

The multisystem locomotives feature a maximum output of 6,400kW and a top speed of 160km/h. Both versions are fitted with national train control systems.

MRCE CEO Junichi Kondo said: “We are glad to have concluded this additional order for 25 Vectron locomotives with Siemens.

“With this order we are further expanding our existing fleet for the North-South corridor and the Eastern European markets. This extended market coverage is allowing us to provide the best and most flexible services to our customers.”

Since its introduction, Siemens has sold the Vectron to 37 customers in 15 countries.
