The Serbian Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with French companies Alstom and Egis Rail, as well as PowerChina for the construction of the Belgrade metro.
As agreed, Alstom will deliver metro trains, digital train control systems and platform screen doors for Phase I of the first line of the metro system.

The company will also be responsible for track laying, supply of power supply solutions, and the transport system integration.
Alstom Central and Eastern Europe managing director Antonio Moreno said: “We are immensely proud that Alstom’s solutions will be part of the construction of the Belgrade metro, which is a very important infrastructure project in the Balkan region.
“This project will greatly improve the transport offering available to Belgrade’s residents and will showcase Alstom’s leadership in metro solutions and providing a superior passenger experience.”
According to a preliminary design, the Belgrade metro project will include two lines. The 22km-long first line will run along the Sava river, crossing Belgrade city centre, and connect the Makisko Polje area with the Mirijevo urban neighbourhood.

By GlobalDataThe second line will stretch around 20km and run from Zemun railway station to Mirijevo.
The delivery of this new metro system is expected to mitigate road congestion in Belgrade, providing the commuters with a faster transportation alternative.
The construction works are expected to begin from the third quarter of this year.
Alstom recently delivered the first refurbished ETR470 Pendolino train to Greek rail transport provider Trainose.
The company will deliver a total of five trains, which will form Greece’s first fleet of high-speed trains.
