Train operating company ScotRail has introduced Class 380 electric trains on the route that runs from Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk High.
The trains were introduced following the line’s electrification, which was carried out by Network Rail.

The seven-carriage Class 380 electric trains feature more seats than previous models and are expected to facilitate faster journey times.
ScotRail is also scheduled to introduce new Hitachi Class 385 trains next year in order to modernise its railway services across Scotland.
ScotRail Alliance managing director Alex Hynes said: “As we prepare for the arrival of our brand new Hitachi trains next year, which will deliver faster journeys, more seats, and better services, we will start running electric trains from our existing fleet between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Falkirk High.
“The running of these electric trains from our existing fleet is an important milestone ahead of the arrival of the brand-new Hitachi trains.”

By GlobalDataThe electric trains are also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by releasing nearly 85% less CO2 per seat.
Scotland Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf said: “The introduction of electric services is a key milestone in the Edinburgh – Glasgow Improvement Programme, and yet another sign that our £5bn investment to 2019 is helping build the best railway Scotland has ever had.”
ScotRail’s new timetable has also become effective following the introduction of the electric Class 380 trains.
