Subsequently, the joint bid worth €1.86m submitted by OÜ Reaalprojekt and Nord Projekt was successful.
RB Estonia management board chairman Tõnu Grünberg said: “By finding a designer of the rolling stock depot, we have now started the designing process of key objects of Rail Baltica in Estonia. The rolling stock depot, which will be built on the border of Rae municipality, will become a large employer in the railway sector and one of the most important competence centre.”
Grünberg also pointed out that procurements related to Rail Baltica are witnessing joint tender submissions or involving highly skilled foreign specialists in the project team.
The Ülemiste rolling stock depot will manage and repair the rolling stock running on Rail Baltica 1435mm track gauge, which will be used for passenger transport.

By GlobalDataPrimarily, the rolling stock will be servicing trains whose final terminal is the Rail Baltica Ülemiste facility.
However, the depot will also provide maintenance and repair services to the rest of the Rail Baltica 1435mm gauge train fleet.
At any given point of time, the depot will be able to accommodate seven trainsets.
The new rolling stock depot will provide parking to the passenger fleet and other essential maintenance functions. It will also include design solutions for the traffic control centre, administrative building, warehouses, technical rooms and other necessary service units.
As part of the depot, seven pairs of rails needed for parking the rolling stock will also be designed.
Following the design procurement contract, Rail Baltica said that an architect will be involved who will coordinate with Rae municipality and Rail Baltic Estonia in creating the depot’s architectural design.
The architectural design solutions will be approved by all the involved parties.
The rolling stock depot will be designed in several phases and construction is scheduled to start in the first half of 2022.
