The contract also includes maintenance and overhaul of more than 100 unpowered bogies and motor bogies of Cantus’s Flirt fleet by 2021, with the company exercising the option to extend the contract.

Under the deal, entire commuter trains and bogies that need overhauling will be transported to Voith’s facilities in Kiel.

Modified trains will return to their services with refurbished bogies within three or four days, leaving the removed units at Voith for overhauling.

Cantus is currently using the trains for regional transport on the Nor-dost-Hessen network between the four German cities of Göttingen, Kassel, Fulda and Eisenach.

During refurbishment, components of bogies will be replaced if necessary. If any brakes are not worn-out then they will not be changed, which will save the operator time and money.

In addition, any accidental damage to the vehicle or components will be repaired.

Voith said that in the electric-driven Stadler Flirt, the motor output was changed to the driven wheel sets through the Voith Type SZH-595 wheelset transmission system.

The company’s new centre in Kiel can perform operations such as removal and replacement of wheels, cleaning all parts and components in special washing machines, as well as ultrasonic testing.
