Under the contract, Strukton will maintain the Nynäsbanan (Nynäs Line) and the Västra stambanan (Western Main Line) between Älvsjö and Gnesta, covering 310km of track.

The Västra stambanan is the main railway line between Stockholm and Gothenburg and consists almost entirely of double-track.

The 55km-long Nynäs Line between Älvsjö and Nynäshamn is electrified and the 22km-long section from Älvsjö to Västerhaninge consists of double-track.

"They will become a natural geographical continuation of the railway maintenance we are doing in central Stockholm."

As part of the contract, Strukton will also be reponsible for the railway engineering, power supply, catenary and signalling, as well as repairs and corrective maintenance.

Strukton Rail regional director Ann-Sofie Lindström said: "We have been looking forward to assuming responsibility for these track sections.

"They will become a natural geographical continuation of the railway maintenance we are doing in central Stockholm. We already have an established and effective group of technicians based in the city, who know both the area and track system very well."
