Line 3

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has installed energy-saving technologies on Barcelona Metro line 3 at Passeig de Gràcia station, as part of the SEAM4US project.

The EU-funded SEAM4US project is aimed at developing advanced technologies for the optimal and scalable control of metro stations, in order to lower non-traction electricity consumption by at least 5%.

Passeig de Gràcia has been chosen as the pilot station to monitor, control and gather data to achieve energy efficiency and optimise resources.

As part of the pilot project, temperature, humidity, outdoor weather conditions and number of passengers at the airport are being monitored throughout the day.

The station’s subsystems, including lighting, escalators, lifts and ventilation, are also being modulated accordingly.

Through SEAM4US, TMB has discovered that a third of the energy required to operate an underground network is used to operate station subsystems, such as ventilation, vertical transportation and lighting.
