Romania-based Tibbett Logistics has announced new investment plans in a bid to improve its open-access Bucharest International Rail Freight Terminal (BIRFT).

As part of its investments, the company will acquire a third Kalmar/Cargotec mobile container handler, as well as satellite tracking for all relevant equipment in the terminal.

Later this year, together with the owner of the P3 industrial park containing the rail terminal, Tibbett plans for the phase-three extension of the terminal platform.

The extension will add another 10,000m² of storage, mainly for empty containers and increase the capacity and handling efficiency of BIRFT.

Tibbett Logistics' CEO David Goldsborough said: "The addition of the third Kalmar reachstacker at BIRFT and the extension of the terminal platform, both coming on-line this summer, are further signs of our commitment to the Romanian marketplace, and specifically the development of intermodal road-rail transport services.

"The extension will add another 10,000m² of storage, mainly for empty containers and increase the capacity and handling efficiency of BIRFT."

“We continue to grow at an impressive rate year-on-year through the addition of new customers and from the growth in volumes of existing customers, confirmation of the reliability and efficiency of our services."

The company’s latest development follows a 36% rise in freight volumes that were handled through the rail terminal last year.

Tibbett operates a total of more than 100,000m² of warehousing at 13 locations.

It has a distribution fleet consisting of tilt trailers, double and triple-chamber reefers and container chassis along with its own intermodal rail wagons.
