Each 200m-long train will have nine air-conditioned and interconnecting carriages and will have capacity to accommodate approximately 1,500 passengers.

The new high-capacity trains feature on-train passenger information systems, which will deliver real-time travel information to allow passengers to plan their onward journeys.

"London’s transport is iconic and the new trains for Crossrail will build on that heritage."

In addition, the on-train energy management systems in the trains will control lighting and air conditioning, as well as re-generate energy back into the supply when braking.

TfL Crossrail operations director Howard Smith said: "London’s transport is iconic from our red buses to the Underground and the new trains for Crossrail will build on that heritage."
