Strukton has been contracted to provide new static inverters for B-Class trams operated by Yarra Trams in Melbourne, Australia.
The new pin-compatible cubical with IGBT electronics will help extend life of the trams’ traction system by 15-20 years.

After winning a public tender process called by Yarra Trams, Strukton Rolling Stock provided an initial batch of three units for a trial on the network.
Melbourne received the B-class trams in the late 1980s.
Power electronics such as static inverters installed on trams can start deteriorating around ten years after installation. Electronics get fragile before the vehicle car body, which is usually designed to run for more than 30 years.
Strukton said that it offers a form-fit-function replacement that is compatible with the vehicle's existing mounting points and connectors.

In July, Strukton Systems secured a deal to install an improved version of ATB train protection system, called ATB Vv, on the Brabant Route from Netherlands’ Rotterdam to Venlo.
The system will also be installed on the A2 corridor starting from Netherlands’ Alkmaar to Maastricht.
As part of the deal, around 400 signals will be equipped with the new version of ATB.
