Russian Railways has awarded a contract to STM-Service fto maintian the SINARA 2ES6 electric freight locomotive series, which are produced by Ural Locomotives, a joint venture between the Sinara Group and Siemens.

Under the contract, STM-Service will set up five service depots at Sverdlovsk, South Urals and West Siberian Railways to provide the quality maintenance services necessary to maintain the 2ES6 electric locomotives.

The electric freight locomotive series is equipped with a microprocessor control system and traction engines with a supporting-frame construction.

In addition to reducing power consumption and non-routine repairs, the locomotive series increases the mileage between regular servicing and overhauls of a new locomotive by 50%.

The 2ES6 SINARA series, which gives 20% more freight capacity compared with the VL11 electric locomotives and cuts labour time on repairs by 15%, will replace the outdated VL 10 and VL 11.
