Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a S$310.8m ($228m) contract to China Railway Tunnel Group (Singapore Branch) for the construction of Circle Line 6's (CCL6) Prince Edward Station and its associated tunnels.

China Railway Tunnel Group (Singapore Branch) is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Railway Group, which specialises in underground building projects.

The company has previously completed multiple national trunk railways, highways, urban rail and public construction developments across China.

Works outlined in the contract include the construction of a three-level underground station at Palmer Road and twin bored tunnels, which will connect the planned Prince Edward Station to Cantonment Station.

Construction is scheduled to commence by the end of this year and is expected to be completed by 2025.

The 4km-long CCL6 will comprise a total of three stops and connect Harbour Front Station to Marina Bay Station. It will also complete the loop of the Circle Line.

The entirety of the completed CCL route is set to feature a total of 33 stations, including 12 interchange stations to other MRT lines.

LTA's CCL6 extension project will provide a direct route for commuters travelling between areas in the Singapore's western region such as the Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge key areas in the Central Business District.

The transport authority also formed a new wholly owned subsidiary known as SG HSR last month, which will be responsible for implementing the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) development.

SG HSR is set to fund, construct, own and maintain all HSR infrastructures within the Singapore region.

The Kuala Lumpur – Singapore HSR is scheduled to begin operations from 2026 and will offer rapid connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore.
