Siemens has received another order worth €55m from Dutch transit operator HTM to deliver 20 additional Avenio type trams for The Hague, Netherlands.

HTM had already placed a €100m order with the company for 40 Avenio type four unit low-floor trams in 2011.

Siemens rail systems division urban transport vehicles global business head Sandra Gott-Karlbauer said: "Back in 2011, HTM was the first operator worldwide to order our Avenio, which has meanwhile established itself in the market very well.

The 40 Avenio type low-floor trams will be installed in The Hague on Lines 9, 11, 15 and 17, while the 20 additional Avenios will run on Line 1, the oldest route on the network.

Avenio trams can accommodate 70 seated and 168 standing passengers and its bogies are designed to rotate up to 4.5°.

These trams have been fitted with low-noise electrical braking, rubber-sprung wheel tires and ancillary units that can be switched off when the vehicle is not in motion. The fully sprung traction drive also reduces noise and vibration.

The new Avenios will be manufactured at Siemens plant in Vienna, Austria, where the production of first batch is currently underway.
