The scope of the contract includes delivery and installation of an automatic pantograph monitoring system (APMS), which is designed to identify pantographs that need to be repaired or replaced.

"The substantial expansion in Finland is an excellent reference for our international customers, who are considering an investment in APMS."

Damaged pantographs are a common cause of railway catenaries being torn down, which leads to significant delays in rail traffic.

Sensys Traffic CEO Johan Frilund said: "This strengthens us in our development of railway contracts internationally.

As per the agreed terms, 50% of the equipment will be delivered by late-2014 and the remainder by early 2015.

The Finnish Transport Agency is expected to more than double the number of APMS in their network.

APMS is currently installed in Sweden, Finland and Norway and is developed in partnership with Swedish transport administration.

Several major countries outside the Nordic region also have pilot installations of APMS on the railway systems.

The markets that Sensys currently addresses with APMS are considered to have a value of SEK1bn ($152.01m).
