A consultancy services contract has been secured by a joint venture of US-based Parsons and Systra for the design of the Qatar Long Distance Railway Network.
The Qatar Long Distance Railway network’s 248.5 miles section is being developed to include six freight facilities, a depot, and seven passenger stations.

Parsons Middle East Africa (MEA) president Guy Mehula said: "This design consultancy project is of strategic importance to the State of Qatar in meeting its national vision, and we look forward to working with Qatar Railways Company to begin work on the project early this year."
The rail network will be integrated with the new Doha Metro to provide freight and passenger services nationally within Qatar, and internationally to neighbouring Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The long-distance network includes lines connecting Port Mesaieed and Ras Laffan (freight); Doha and Bahrain (passengers); Doha and Dukhan (passengers and freight); Doha to Al Shamal (passengers and freight).
According to Qatar Rail chief programme officer and deputy CEO Hamad Ibrahim Al Bishri, construction on the rail network will begin in the third quarter of 2015, and be completed by 2017-2018.
