Otis Canada has won a contract to supply 54 elevators and modernise two existing units for the $2bn O-Train Confederation Line, which is the first phase of Ottawa's electric Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. 

Otis signed the supply contract with OLRT Constructors, a consortium comprising EllisDon, Dragados and SNC-Lavalin. The agreement also includes a ten-year Otis maintenance contract.

Under the contract, Otis will provide 44 Gen2 elevators, ten special freight elevators, and modernise two additional lifts.

Many of the elevators will combine Otis’s Gen2 technology with custom-designed glass cabs.

Construction of the O-Train Confederation Line completed on the 202km Rideau Canal connecting the city with Kingston, Ontario.

The new rail line is set to provide rail transit service along a 12.5km, 13-station route.

Three of the underground stations are interconnected by a 2.5km tunnel that covers the city’s downtown core.

In 2013, preliminary construction of the LRT system started, with planned full service expected in 2018.
