Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) construction division has won a Rs8.47bn ($126.9m) design and build contract from Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL).
The order has been received by the consortium of L&T and Spanish company Instalaciones Inabensa. L&T will undertake electrification works for the 417km segment of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), which runs between Mughalsarai and New Bhaupur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The project also includes the development of seven Traction Sub Stations (TSS), 881 track kilometres of overhead equipment (OHE), 18 switching stations (SWS), electrical and mechanical works, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and the delivery of all related equipment.
The 417km section of the DFC will be designed for two 25kV traction power systems, along with OHE best suited for dedicated freight transport.
The project is expected to serve as an energy-efficient system in India’s rail sector and will use mechanised means of overhead equipment installation.
Funded by World Bank, the project is part of the 1,856km Eastern DFC proposed between Sahnewal in Ludhiana and Dankuni near Kolkata via Mughalsarai.
