A joint venture (JV) comprising Granite Construction Company, Shimmick Construction and Traylor Bros has been awarded the Airport Guideway and Stations Design-Build Contract by the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation of Hawaii.

Granite will record its 33% share of the $875m joint venture project into backlog in the third quarter of 2016.

Under the terms, the JV team will be responsible for construction of 5.2 miles of elevated line between Aloha Stadium and the Middle Street Transit Center Station in Honolulu.

"This is the third guideway in a series of projects for construction of a 20-mile light rail transit system."

The JV will also construct the Pearl Harbor Naval Base transit station, with two more stations near the Honolulu International Airport and another at Middle Street.
