India-based IVRCL’s transportation division has won a Rs9.7bn ($196m) contract from Indian Rail to build a tunnel on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla line.
The project involves construction of an 8.6km main tunnel and related facilities, including a 7.4km escape tunnel, a 585m adit, a vehicular cross passage, 12 pedestrian crossings, refuge niches and escape tunnel lay-bys.

The rail link will connect Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country, passing through the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas.
The project will take 36 months to complete.
