The contract to supervise construction of an extension of line 12 of Mexico City’s metro has been secured by a consortium of Spain's Ineco, its Mexican subsidiary Inecomex, Spanish infrastructure manager Adif, and Cal y Mayor y Asociados, Mexico.
The 4km extension of line 12 will run from Mixcoac to Obervatorio where it will connect with line 1 and the 57.7km Mexico City-Toluca interurban passenger route, scheduled to open next year.

Under the deal, a workforce of 80 will be deployed to guarantee execution of the works from the beginning until commissioning of the extension, which will have two intermediate stations at Valentín Campa and Álvaro Obregón.
The project will also include construction of three new stations, which are expected to significantly improve mobility between the city’s western and southern areas.
The extension is intended to help alleviate congestion of existing lines and strengthen the transport system.
Opened in October 2012, the initial 24.5km section of line 12 has 20 stations and runs from Mixcoac to Tláhuac.
