A joint venture comprising Coastal Projects and Indian infrastructure construction firm HCC has secured an Rs7.85bn ($123m) contract from Northeast Frontier Railway to develop a 9.5km tunnel for the new railway line between Tupul and Impha, India.

HCC holds a 60% share in the joint venture, which is Rs4.71bn ($74m) of the project and scheduled to be completed in 40 months.

The firm noted that this is its fourth successive order from Northeast Frontier Railway on the new railway line between Jiribam and Tupul.

"It is testament to the confidence enjoyed by the company in successfully executing complex tunnelling work."

The first project was to build a 3.25km tunnel between Dholakal and Kaimai Road stations, while the second order was to build a 3.3km tunnel between Kambiron Road and Thingou stations.

The third project included development of a 4.9km-long railway tunnel between Kaimai Road and Kambiron Road stations.

In addition, HCC is also building the 4.3km-long Bogibeel Rail-cum-road Bridge over river Brahmaputra near Dibrugarh, Assam for Northeast Frontier Railway.
