Absher Construction Company has awarded a $39m subcontract to US-based Granite Construction to build the Northgate Station in Seattle, Washington.  

In August, Absher Construction was selected by Sound Transit to build the Northgate Station, guideway as well as parking garage that will serve Northgate Link Extension trains once light-rail service starts in 2021.

Under the latest contract, Granite’s work will involve construction of a half-mile of elevated rail structure and associated work.

The new Northgate Station project, which is part of the light rail improvements for Sound Transit’s growing public transit network, will provide access to the transit centre.

It will also provide access to Northgate Mall, adjacent park-and-ride facilities, North Seattle Community College and nearby homes and businesses. 

Construction of the station is set to begin this month with completion slated for December 2018.

The N160 Northgate Station project consists of an elevated guideway for the light rail link, an elevated station, and a parking garage.

The project is planned to be built over the next three and a half years and will feature six-tenths of a mile of elevated guideway, an elevated light rail station and a 455-stall parking garage.

Granite Construction is an infrastructure contractor and produces construction materials.
