High-speed rail service provider Eurostar has unveiled its e320 train, which is due to start commercial service at the end of 2015.

The launch of the new e320 trains is part of Eurostar’s £700m investment programme.

Meanwhile, the company has also decided to order seven more trains, in addition to Siemens’ order for ten trains.

In 2010, Eurostar signed a £550m contract with Siemens to deliver ten e320 trains, increasing the total number of trains on order for Siemens to 17.

"We are seeing a record demand for our services and the addition of new trains to our fleet will be key to our growth ambitions."

The ‘inter-operable’ e320 trains will be capable of running across various European signalling systems and as a result, will be able to offer new direct services between the UK and other European cities.

With a maximum speed of 320km/h, the new trains will be able to house 900 passengers.

Eurostar chief executive Nicolas Petrovic said: "Having had ten consecutive years of growth, we are seeing a record demand for our services and the addition of new trains to our fleet will be key to our growth ambitions.

"The combination of bold design, chic interiors and Wi-Fi connectivity will raise the bar, providing an unprecedented level of style and comfort for our customers."

Italian firm Pininfarina was responsible for the design of external livery and interiors of the train, while Nomad Digital was assigned to install on-board passenger Wi-Fi network.

Once operational, the trains will run on a 306-mile line to Paris through the Channel Tunnel within two hours.
