The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has awarded a 13-year contract worth €120m to a consortium of Alstom and Cofely Besix Facility Management for the maintenance of the first phase of Al Sufouh tram project.
Under the contract the consortium will maintain the rolling stock and fixed installations of the new Al Sufouh light rail line currently in construction.

As per the agreement, the European companies also have an option for a five-year extension, to the amount of €50m. The maintenance contract includes preventive and corrective routine maintenance, equipment renewal, technical support, management of spare-parts inventories for the Citadis tramsets as well as the implementation of a major maintenance programme.
It also involves maintaining passenger stations, maintenance depot, tracks and platforms, points and crossings, power supply and distribution equipment, a ground-level power supply system, communication and signalling systems and other electromechanical installations.
Cofely Besix will be responsible for maintaining the stations and depot, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, and will provide associated services in the stations and along the track.
Alstom could also receive the maintenance deal for the second phase of the Dubai tramway project that entails the delivery of 14 additional Citadis tramsets, as well as four additional km of track and six stations. As consortium leader, Alstom’s share in the contract will be €68m while Cofely Besix FM will have a share of €52m.

By GlobalDataThe first phase of the Dubai tramway project includes supply of 11 Citadis tramsets, building 10km of track, 13 stations and other electrification, signalling and ticketing systems equipment.
When completed, the tram will link with the Dubai Metro at three stations along Sheikh Zayed Road and will also tie-up with the monorail on the Palm Jumeirah.
Commercial services are slated to commence by the end of 2014. After making the tramway operational, Dubai will become the first city in the Gulf region to operate a tramway system, which will service between 180,000 and 220,000 commuters living in the Al Sufouh area.
