Drake & Scull International’s rail division has been awarded a contract to deliver a new automated passenger mover system (APM) at the Dubai International Airport.

The AED35m ($9.5m) contract covers supply and deployment of entire mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services, specialised electrical services and railway services across all the APM-related sites.

The APM will be used to link a new fourth concourse, which is currently built after being commissioned by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, to terminal one at Dubai International Airport.

Drake & Scull Rail operations director Darko Macura said: "We are delighted to secure our first Rail project in the Middle East, and are excited and proud to be a part of the prestigious Dubai International Airport project that combines airport and railway infrastructure."

Work under the contract will also include production and submission of shop/fabrication drawings, and provision of railway-specific services such as signals, traction power, maintenance of area power, compressed air and communication systems as well as minor construction works.

Al Jaber LEGT Engineering & Contracting (ALEC) will serve as the main contractor for development of concourse four at Dubai International Airport.
