Singapore-based Sapphire's subsidiary Ranken Railway Construction Group has been awarded two contracts worth a combined RMB856m ($130m) for work on municipal metro and rail transit lines in China.

The first contract is valued at RMB561m ($86m) and will see the construction of two stations, Ganjingzi and Shanhua Street, along the 24.5km-long Dalian Metro Line 5.

A new section will also be added to link the new Ganjingzi Station with Shanhua Street Station, as well as another network connecting Ganjingzi Station to Barracuda Bay Station.

The second contract includes the development of a 3.6km section between the International Airport Station and Terminal 4 as part of the second phase of Urumqi Airport Rail Transit Line 2.

Work under both the contracts is expected to be completed by December 2019.

Transtech's bi-directional, three-part ForCity Smart Artic trams will have capacity to accommodate up to 264 passengers each.

The trams will feature low-floor with a normal gauge of 1,435mm and are expected to offer barrier-free access for wheelchair users and prams.

The trams are set to be put into operation from 2021 on a newly constructed track. Transtech will deliver the locomotives in three separate consignments. 

The contract also features option for the supply of an additional 46 vehicles to Tampere.
