Bombardier Transportation Americas has secured a $69m (C$93m) contract from TransLink to supply 28 Innovia Metro 300 vehicles for use on the Vancouver SkyTrain network in British Columbia, Canada.

Featuring a sustainable design, the new trains will be built from recyclable material and will be equipped with linear induction motor (LIM) propulsion technology and energy-saving regenerative braking technology.

First delivery of the vehicles is expected in the second half of 2017, with final delivery is scheduled for Q4 2018.

Polish rail company PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has won a €175m ($182.69m) loan from the European Investment bank (EIB) towards refurbishment of rail tracks within the Rail Baltica project that connects Baltic States with Poland and other EU states.

The loan will be used to modernise the Sadowne to Czyzew and Czyzew to Bialystok sections of the project.

A new 106km rail line will be modernised, while a new double-track bridge will be constructed over the Bug River. An extra track will also be laid on the Prostyn Bug-Malkinia section.

CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Rail Transport (NPRT), a JV of Singapore-based Midas, has gained two separate metro train car supply contracts worth CNY1.77bn ($254.5m).

The first contract is worth& CNY1.05bn ($150.9m) and was awarded by the Changzhou Rail Transit Development for the supply of train cars for the Changzhou Rail Transit Line One Phase-I procurement project in China.

"The loan will be used to modernise the Sadowne to Czyzew and Czyzew to Bialystok sections of the project."

The second agreement worth CNY720m ($103.5m) was placed by Xuzhou Rail Transit Line One Investment and Development for the Xuzhou Urban Rail Transit Line One Phase-I procurement project.

Both contracts will be executed between January 2018 and November 2019.

The US Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA), through its capital investment grant (CIG) programme, has announced a $499.4m grant to support the TEX Rail project, a 26.8-mile commuter rail line under construction in Texas, US.

Expected to commence operations in 2018, the line connects the major activity centres in the city, and also provides connections to other rail and bus services.

Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) has ordered 300 Talent-3 electric multiple units (EMUs) from Bombardier in a framework contract worth $1.9bn.

The first call-off order of the contract includes delivery of 21 trains in 2019. The trains will be used for both regional and suburban rail transport in the country and will increase passenger transport capacity for both daily and leisure users.

The modern Talent 3 EMUs feature wide bodies and enhanced seating capacity and will provide benefits such as low-energy consumption, operational flexibility and reduced lifecycle costs.
